A little fresh air can make a busy day feel better. And Isle of Wight County residents have a new outdoor space to look forward to.

The county is moving ahead with the first phase of Henry H. Bradby Park, planned for roughly 51 acres in the Smithfield area. The project has reached the construction bidding stage—an important step toward turning the plans into a place people can enjoy. View the current project notice.

What’s Planned for the Park?

The county’s planning documents describe a first phase with a walking trail, playground, and parking. These simple features could give residents more ways to spend time outside, from a short walk to an afternoon of play. See the county’s park planning update.

The current construction notice also includes landscaping, park furnishings, drainage, and other work needed to prepare the site.

One welcome detail: the first phase calls for work on about 6.63 acres, with roughly 45 acres proposed to remain undisturbed open space. That means much of the property would keep its natural feel during this phase. Read the Phase 1 project details.

Moving Forward, One Step at a Time

A construction bid is progress, but it does not mean the park is ready for visitors. The county is seeking a contractor for Phase 1, and there are still steps ahead before residents can enjoy the finished space.

For now, Henry H. Bradby Park is a project to watch. Opening plans and final features will become clearer as the work moves forward. Updates can be followed through the county’s official project portal.

More Ways to Enjoy Life Close to Home

Sometimes, the best part of a day is something simple: a walk after dinner, a little time on the playground, or a chance to put the phone away and get outside.

A local park can make those moments easier to fit into the week. It can also become a familiar place where neighbors wave hello and friends meet up.

For people getting to know Isle of Wight County, places like this offer a glimpse of everyday life here. A house is part of feeling at home. Having places nearby that you enjoy is another.

Something Local to Look Forward To

There is still work ahead, but Henry H. Bradby Park is taking a step forward. With walking space, room to play, and much of the land planned to stay undisturbed, it could become a welcome addition to the community.

Whether you have lived in Isle of Wight County for years or are just getting to know the area, this is one local project worth keeping an eye on.
